Text Diff Checker
Compare two blocks of text line by line.
About Text Diff Checker
Text Diff Checker compares two blocks of text line by line and highlights every addition and removal in place, with a running count of each.
How to use it
- Paste the original text into the left pane.
- Paste the changed version into the right pane.
- Review the line-by-line diff below: additions and removals are color-coded.
Common use cases
- Reviewing a config change before deploying it
- Comparing two versions of a paragraph or document
- Spotting exactly what changed between two API responses
Example
Before
Left: "The quick brown fox" Right: "The quick red fox"
After
"brown" flagged as removed, "red" flagged as added
Diffing is line-level, so the whole line is compared as a unit — word-level highlighting within a changed line is just for readability.
Common errors
Every line shows as changed even though only one word differs
Expected for line-level diffing — reformat both inputs with the same line breaks so only genuinely different lines get flagged.
Whitespace-only differences show up as changes
Trailing spaces or mixed tabs/spaces count as a difference at the line level — run both versions through a formatter first if you only care about content changes.
FAQ
Is this a line-level or word-level diff?
Line-level: each line is compared as a whole, so it's best for comparing structured or line-oriented content like code or config files.
Can I compare two full text files, not just short snippets?
Yes — paste any length of text into each pane; there's no separate file-upload step, so just paste the full contents of each file.
