URL Encoder/Decoder

Encode or decode URLs and query string components.

About URL Encoder/Decoder

Encode or decode URLs and query string values, with a toggle between component-safe encoding and full-URI encoding. This distinction matters: encoding a single query parameter needs different rules than encoding a whole URL.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text or URL into the input.
  2. Switch between Encode and Decode using the button.
  3. Toggle "Encode full URI" if you want to preserve reserved characters like / ? & =; leave it off when encoding a single query value.
  4. Copy the result.

Common use cases

  • Encoding a query parameter value that contains spaces or special characters
  • Decoding a URL pulled from server logs to see what it actually contains
  • Safely building a query string by hand

FAQ

What's the difference between component and full-URI mode?

Component mode (encodeURIComponent) escapes reserved characters like & and =; use it for a single parameter value. Full-URI mode (encodeURI) preserves those characters; use it when encoding an entire URL.

Is this the same as JavaScript's encodeURIComponent?

Component mode matches encodeURIComponent's behavior exactly; Full-URI mode matches encodeURI, which preserves reserved characters like / ? & =.
